Learn critical skills to stay safe on the river

For all river enthusiasts

Don’t rely on your more experienced friends to take care of the whole group if or when snags happen on the river. If you’re paddling class III rivers or above, it’s time to learn the skills you need to take care of yourself and others on the river. We offer ACA accredited Level 4 and advanced level 5 classes for all white water enthusiasts, no boats needed. Specific boat based rescue classes are offered separately. Or maybe you want to become a rescue Instructor? We are now offering instructor certification courses!

Swiftwater Rescue Classes

Swiftwater Rescue Skills Class (ACA Level 4)

The standard course that all of your partners expect you to take. Learn how to identify and mitigate hazards on the river and how to rescue yourself and your boating partners.

Boat-Based Rescue (Kayak/Packraft)

Spend an evening after work dialing in your boat-based rescue skills. Learn how to push boats, grab swimmers, use tethers, and do hand-of-god rescues.

New! Evening Rescue Classes

Want to brush up on your swiftwater rescue skills? Join us on Thursday nights for these bite-sized sessions to refresh your skills and learn new techniques.

Advanced Swiftwater Rescue Class (ACA Level 5)

Already taken a two-day course but want additional coaching on rescue skills? This course is for those who want to feel prepared for anything on the river.

What to bring

Drysuit

You will be in the water most of the day. A drysuit is highly recommended, but thick neoprene can also work.

PFD

A rescue PFD is recommended if you have access to one, otherwise, bring the whitewater PFD that you have.

Shoes with grip

If you do not yet have whitewater shoes, bring an old pair of sneakers that has good grip.

Food and water

Pack your own lunch and plenty of snacks to stay hydrated and happy throughout the day.

Throw bag

Bring a throw bag if you have one. We have plenty of extras if you don’t.

Helmet

Always wear a whitewater rated helmet on the river!
